Webinar: Use Rousseau, Burke, & Revolution in France, 1791 Online
12 PM EDT | September 16, 2020

The French Revolution will be Zoomed! This session will help prepare participants to use the active learning pedagogy, and specifically Rousseau, Burke, and Revolution in France, 1791 online. We will discuss best practices for using the game in virtual classes, how to translate game mechanics online, and highlight key considerations for both synchronous and asynchronous platforms (including slack and video conferencing). Based on our experience of the game on Zoom and Slack this July, we will discuss the need for GMs to pay special attention to riots in a virtual game, while ensuring that the energy level of the game is still very high (even though it can dissipate in an online classroom environment). We will also highlight how to effectively use a platform like Slack to encourage faction collaboration, cross-factional interaction, and voting. Experienced Reacting professors Gretchen Galbraith and Joe Sramek will lead the discussion and answer questions. For those unfamiliar with the French Revolution game in any format, there is an additional (optional) session before to introduce the game's themes and structures. ** We will also make a recording available for purchase after the webinar.
